It's the 2nd January, and we've had a pretty warm Christmas here in Sussex. However, today I am feeling the chill, so I decided to make a quick pair of slippers to wear around the house and keep my toes warm! I have called them my Super Granny Slippers, because I think it's just super that knitters and crocheters can create what they need out of a ball of yarn. What a talent! I really hope I pass this skill down to my children. The joy and sense of achievement that is felt when I finish a piece of clothing or an accessory is something I want my kids to know now, and in the future. My Molly has achieved a few lovely items in the last few years, and my 5 year old Ivie has also started to ask to learn, and is doing really well with her little hooks! (Knitting is not my forte, now there is a challenge for myself!)

I have made quite a few basic pairs of slippers before, mainly for my kids, so I knew how to make a simple pair for myself, they just needed to be bigger! I went for a slightly chunkier aran weight yarn and a 5mm hook. I always seem to have left over balls of Hobbycraft's WI Aran yarn, as it comes in those big 400g balls! So here we have their mustard tweed, just perfect for my slippers and ready and waiting, along with my brand new Clover Amour hooks! (Big thanks to the hubby for taking my "suggestions" seriously when he asked what I wanted for Christmas).
This pattern is written in UK crochet terms. US abbreviations below.
Abbreviations:
UK ch = chain
US ch = chain
UK tr = treble crochet
US dc = double crochet
UK sl st = slip stitch
US sl st = slip stitch
Ch2 counts as a stitch.

Begin with a magic ring.
Round 1: Ch2, 11tr into magic ring. Join to top of ch2. (12st)
Round 2: Ch2, 2tr into each st. Join to top of ch2. (24st)
Round 3: Ch2, tr into each st. Join to top of ch2. (24st)
Round 4: Repeat round 3. (24st)
Round 5: Ch2, 2tr in same st, sk2 st, 3tr in next st. *Sk2 st, 3tr in next st* Repeat * to * 5 times. Join to top of ch2. (24st)
Round 6: Ch2, 2tr in same space. *Sk3 st, 3tr in next space* Repeat * to * 6 times. Join to top of ch2. (24st)
Round 7-11: Repeat round 6.
Round 8: Ch2, 17tr. (18st) Turn.
Round 9-16: Repeat round 8.
NB: I wear a UK size 4. To make these slippers longer, simply repeat round 8 as many times as you need. Bear in mind they stretch a little once you are wearing them!

You now have the toe and arch section finished. To assemble the heel, fold the end of your arch section in half and sl st to join.

Turn the heel the right side out, fasten off and weave in your ends. Repeat for your second slipper. Voila!
